The Faith of a Writer
By Joyce Carol Oates
Ecco, 158 pages, $21.95
“More about the process of writing than the uneasy, uncertain position of being a writer,” Joyce Carol Oates says of this collection of her essays. Each explores a single facet of the solitary art of writing. Oates intends for this volume, written over the course of her career, to be “undogmatic, provisional,” but the essays come together into a book that is comforting and inspiring.
