Items that Northern Illinois coach Joe Novak is almost certain to tell his players at Tuesday’s team meeting:
– Despite Saturday’s 49-30 loss at Toledo, the Huskies can achieve the first 10-victory regular season in the school’s 102 years of football if they beat Eastern Michigan at home Saturday.
– The 28 bowl games have a few at-large berths not committed to major conferences, and the Huskies have an outside chance for one of those bids if they finish 10-2.
– NIU fought back after injuries sidelined receiver Dan Sheldon in the fifth game, linebacker Nick Duffy in the sixth game, safety Akil Grant for the last three games and defensive starters Javan Lee, Travis Moore and Jason Frank for significant chunks of the season.
