Eastern Illinois’ youthful Panthers seek to win their fourth of the last five games when their season-long learning experience continues Saturday at Jacksonville State. In beating Tennessee State 37-10 last week, coach Bob Spoo’s predominantly freshman-sophomore team learned how to win a game when an opponent makes more first downs, gains more yards and snaps off more plays. The answer is to have a defense that forces eight turnovers. End Kory Lothe had four sacks and forced two fumbles. Cornerback Terrance Sanders and linebacker Fred Miller each had an interception and recovered a fumble, and Sanders returned his fumble 48 yards for a touchdown. EIU, once 1-5, can finish 6-6 if it beats Jacksonville State and Samford in its last two games.
