Naperville Central’s Swarna Subramanian, 16, has the largest shoes to fill in Illinois tennis history–those worn by Elizabeth Lumpkin, who last week won her record-setting fourth straight singles state championship. Subramanian, a junior who played No. 2 this year, likely will replace Lumpkin at No. 1 singles. “It’s been an honor to be [playing] second to Elizabeth,” Subramanian said. “She puts so much into the game and is an awesome person. Elizabeth is a really good role-model, a great person and has an incredible personality. Watching her play is like an art form.” Subramanian lost in the second-round of the sectional tournament. “It’s going to be really hard next year, but I’m definitely excited for the oppportunity.”
