Coach Joe Novak hasn’t had to worry this season about Northern Illinois being overconfident. Until, perhaps, now. . . .
The Huskies, 8-1 and ranked No. 23 nationally, play Saturday at Buffalo, a 1-9 team that recently ended Division I-A’s longest losing streak at 18 games. . . .
Bruce Gradkowski completed 23-of-25 passes for 435 yards as Toledo routed Buffalo 56-29 Saturday. Meanwhile, the Huskies rushed for 252 yards, 126 by Michael Turner and 106 by A.J. Harris, in their 48-23 romp over Ball State. . . .
Already concerned that his players might look past Buffalo to their Nov. 15 showdown at Toledo, Novak has reminded them they face a “three-game season” to determine their fate for postseason play.
