Here’s a chance to say you knew–and wore–them before they made it big.

The national arts organization Gen Art rolls out its “Fresh Faces in Fashion” show in Chicago for the first time on Nov. 13. It will feature Chicago designers Calvin Tran and Doris Ruth (a team composed of Allie Adams and Christine Johnson), as well as Milly of New York, Louis Verdad of Los Angeles and Kamkyl of Montreal.

Never heard of them?

That’s the point.

In nine years of presenting the “Fresh Faces” runway show in New York and Los Angeles, Gen Art has helped launch the design careers and companies of Zac Posen, Chaiken, Rebecca Taylor, Shoshanna and others.

The Chicago show was added this year in recognition of the city’s rightful place on the style map. It’s Gen Art’s flagship fashion event of the year here.

Men’s and women’s wear–60 looks in all–will be modeled on a runway flanked with giant video screens, following a cocktail hour and accessories exhibition featuring the jewelry of Molly Holtzer, handbags of Theresa Buffo and hats of Marie Galvin, all of Chicago.

The event starts at 7:30 p.m. at the Park West, 322 W. Armitage Ave. Tickets cost $30 for Gen Art members, $35 for non-members. Tickets at the door are $40 each. For more information call 312-229-1701 or check www.genart.org.

‘Kill Bill’ sidekicks

The bright yellow sneakers worn by Uma Thurman in Quentin Tarantino’s “Kill Bill Volume 1” are kicking up sales for the Japanese athletic shoemaker Asics, according to the Worth Global Style Network.

An Asics spokesman reports that the 1,000 pairs of two replicas of Onitsuka Tiger “tai-chi” shoes used in the movie sold out in about a week in Japan.

A total of 3,400 pairs are being offered in the U.S., Europe, Australia and Japan.
