The presence of senior kicker Steve Azar should be re-assuring to coach Joe Novak for Saturday’s Mid-American Conference showdown at Bowling Green, where the Falcons are three-point favorites. Azar is just what a coach needs on his side in a close game. He was named as MAC special teams player of the week last week for the sixth time, the third time this season.

Azar has hit his last 11 field-goal tries and his last 49 attempted PATs. His 332 points are the career best for a MAC kicker. He needs three more field goals to break the league record of 68 of Gary Gussman (Miami, 1984-87) and Rusty Hanna (Toledo, 1989-92). Azar has hit 134-of-139 PATs, 96.4 percent, and 66-of-83 field goal tries, 79.5 percent.
