`Hootie’ and the hockey team

What’s in a name? Everything to Chris Giangreco, a returning senior center for the New Trier Green hockey team. Since he was 2 he has simply been known as “Hootie,” after a character in “How the Grinch Stole Christmas.” His family, friends, teammates and even teachers call him “Hootie”–and that’s even how he signs his name on school papers. “The first day of class is always funny, when the teachers call me Chris and I have to tell them that I go by `Hootie,'” he said. He’s the son of WLS-Ch. 7 sportscaster Mark Giangreco, but he isn’t planning to follow his father into broadcasting.
