Capitalizing on the success of the movie “Barbershop,” Fox TV Studios is developing a reality series based in a modern hair salon.

New York hair stylist Rodney Cutler and hair product giant Redken are on board for “Making the Cut,” a reality entry that will star a gang of aspiring hair dressers learning the tools of the trade.

“It is almost like ‘American Idol’ meets ‘The Restaurant’ in a hairdressing salon,” David Martin, Fox TV’s executive vice president of alternative productions, told The Hollywood Reporter. “Not only are we having all the usual drama of setting up a new business, but a charismatic hairdresser who’s mentoring these kids and giving them a chance to get into the business in a way they can never normally get.”

Fox TV has yet to secure a network home for the series.
