Hamell on Trial
Tough Love
To call Ed Hamell verbose is like calling Carrot Top annoying. Hamell can’t and won’t shut up, but unlike most strumming solo acts, he actually has something to say. But what makes this shaved-headed rocker’s first studio album since a near-fatal car crash in 2000 a keeper is the music, whether it’s the harmonica-topped soul groove of “First Date,” the thrash attack of “Worry Wart” or the bash and pop of “Oughta Go Around.”
