Coach Bob Spoo’s Panthers obviously are not going to limit Missouri to one first down and 61 net yards in 49 plays as they did in last week’s 27-0 shutout of California (Pa.). But linebackers Nick Ricks and Fred Miller and their fellow defenders key EIU’s hopes of upsetting the Tigers. . . .
Ricks led Eastern with 10 tackles in the opener. Miller had seven tackles, two for losses. That means Eastern’s defensive line was keeping blockers away from the linebackers. . . .
Offensive stars in Eastern’s opener included tailback Andre Raymond with 110 yards and two touchdowns, quarterback Andy Vincent, who completed 15-of-21 passes for 160 yards, and receiver Nick Eller, who had seven catches for 79 yards and a touchdown.
