Democratic members of the House Small Business Committee say the Bush administration isn’t doing enough to promote small-business development.
The criticism comes as President Bush and his economic team begin a road show this week to promote the administration’s effort to strengthen the economy and create jobs.
Treasury Secretary John Snow, Commerce Secretary Don Evans and Labor Secretary Elaine Chao have scheduled appearances for Tuesday and Wednesday in Wisconsin and Minnesota.
“We are not here to criticize [Bush’s] small-business agenda. We are here to ask, almost a year and half later, where are the accomplishments? I can tell you there are none,” said U.S. Rep. Nydia Velazquez (D-N.Y.), who sits on the committee.
Bush promised to provide new tax incentives for small businesses, give owners the ability to provide more health care options to their employees, ease regulatory burdens and open the federal procurement system to small businesses.

Velazquez said that the recently passed tax overhaul has provided little relief to small business, that the easing of health care rules appears to be stalled and that the administration effort to open the procurement system has stumbled.
