All along, the Bears said they would take only four quarterbacks to training camp, and Henry Burris learned Monday he was fifth on the depth chart.

The Bears waived the former Canadian League starter and Green Bay backup, meaning Cory Sauter will go Bourbonnais on July 25 as the No. 4 quarterback.

Burris’ chances of making the Bears decreased as the off-season progressed. The Bears spent a first-round pick on Florida quarterback Rex Grossman, creating a crowd at the position. Three weeks later, Burris tore a knee ligament playing for the Berlin Thunder in NFL Europe. He completed 55-of-99 passes for 589 yards with five TD passes and five interceptions.

The Bears signed Burris, 28, as a free agent last year after he spent one season with the Packers. He started the season finale against Tampa Bay, a 15-0 loss in which he completed 7-of-19 for 78 yards with four interceptions. For the season, he completed 18-of-51 with three TD passes and five interceptions.

Sauter, 28, signed with the Bears after Indianapolis released him at midseason last year. The former University of Minnesota star also has played for Arizona and Detroit.

Kordell Stewart goes to training camp as the Bears’ starter, backed up by Chris Chandler, Grossman and Sauter.
