Granta spotlights young British novelists

Best of Young British Novelists 2003

Introduced by Ian Jack

Granta, 350 pages, $14.95 paper

In 1983, the literary quarterly Granta devoted a book to selections from what it called the 20 best novelists in Britain younger than 40–including Ian McEwan and Salman Rushdie. This latest “Best” edition has works by such authors as Peter Ho Davies and Zadie Smith, part of a new generation devoted to writing and the power of the well-told story.
