Widespread Panic
Ball
With a Southern rock-based sound driven by two guitars, keyboards and the requisite jam-band percussion, Widespread Panic became a jam-crowd favorite in the post-Dead era. That live consistency hasn’t always translated well to the group’s albums, which have veered between thrilling and disappointing. “Ball,” the group’s latest, falls into the former category. “Ball” ably mixes sorrowful acoustic-based numbers and the band’s trademark spread-out electric songs.
