While “Dusty the Bear” Beanie Babies were the giveaway of the day at Wrigley Field, another Baker “baby” was in evidence Sunday.
Four-year-old Darren, son of manager Dusty Baker, sang “Take Me Out to the Ball Game” for the seventh-inning stretch and then enjoyed the traditional celebration meal: a peanut-butter-and-jelly sandwich with chocolate milk.
He declared that his favorite Cubs players are first baseman Hee Seop Choi and closer Joe Borowski and that he wants a career in baseball as well as one in singing.
If Baker the Son decides on a music career, “whatever he wants to do,” Baker the Father said. “I’m behind him as long as it’s good and clean.”
Baker the Younger may be ultimately leaning toward a managerial calling.
