When it comes to summer vacation, there’s no place like away-from-home, wherever that is. That’s why Linda McCarthy, 47, of Chicago is planning to use some down time this summer to celebrate the Toto-Look-a-Like Contest that she–actually her 3-year-old cairn terrier, Monster–recently won.

McCarthy entered the contest, held at the Anti-Cruelty Society in Chicago, after reading about it, along with the “Sing-A-Long Wizard of Oz,” in Q.

Easy for her!

“Monster probably thought I was going to give her away,” McCarthy said. “She probably picked up all these vibes. She was shaking.”

But Monster kept it together, stayed adorable and took top honors among about a dozen entrants (not all of whom were cairn terriers). McCarthy won a stay at the Hyatt Regency Crown Center in Kansas City, Mo.

McCarthy is aiming for a summertime trip. But Monster will have to stay home unless McCarthy is sneaky; the hotel allows only worker animals. (Ever moonlight as a guide dog, Monster?)

In the meantime, she’s thinking about fostering a cairn terrier to keep Monster company. “I had a psychic come over and had her ask Monster, `Do you want another dog?’

Monster’s answer was, `Maybe when I’m 4, we’ll get a puppy.’ “
