By topping Penn State, Indiana moved into a Friday night game against Michigan (17-12), a team the Hoosiers beat 63-49 on Feb. 12.
Indiana coach Mike Davis said that may have been the “poorest game they played in a while.”
Michigan has removed itself from consideration from NCAA tournament play because of a long-simmering scandal, so it will wrap up its season here.
“This is their NCAA tournament,” Indiana guard Tom Coverdale said.
Coverdale said his team seems renewed at the right time after struggling since late January.
“I think we’re more excited about basketball and this team than we have been all year,” Coverdale said.
On target: Indiana shot 52 percent from the floor against Penn State and made 7-of-13 three-pointers. The percentage beyond the arc was 53.8 percent.
Freshman guard Bracey Wright came into the game as Indiana’s leading scorer, averaging 17.1 points per game, but finished the day with only seven points.
Job watch: Penn State coach Jerry Dunn’s job appears to be in jeopardy after a 7-21 season and a 117-121 record since 1995.

“I would like to think I will have an opportunity to come back,” Dunn said. “I would like to get us back on the winning track.”
