Art of Fighting’s name couldn’t be less descriptive of the Aussie band’s lyrical sound. A more descriptive name would be the Art of Dreaming; each song on its lovely debut, “Wires,” sounds like the soundtrack to a half-remembered reverie. Recalling Yo La Tengo at its most tuneful as well as the unabashed romanticism of Red House Painters, “Wires” is a contemplative disc that never lapses into self-indulgence. The voices of Ollie Browne and Peggy Frew convey real urgency as they plaintively twine together and drift apart.
