Doc Films, the Race/Film Study Group and the Center for the Study of Race, Politics and Culture at the University of Chicago will explore race in America by screening films by Sidney Poitier, including “Lilies of the Field” (for which he won an Academy Award) and Civil Rights era movies of 1948-1968. The schedule includes “Blackboard Jungle,” Sunday; “Edge of the City” and “The Defiant Ones,” Feb. 2; “I Have a Dream” and “Lilies of the Field,” Feb. 9; “Pig Power” and “Nothing But a Man,” Feb. 16; “Black Panther” and “In the Heat of the Night,” Feb. 23; “To Sir With Love,” March 2; “Black Power: We’re Goin’ Survive America” and “Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner,” March 9.
