Authority Zero
A Passage in Time

As the latest wave of punk grows in popularity, its purveyors are hard-pressed to make music that doesn’t sound like every other band’s. Authority Zero partially succeeds on its debut, “A Passage in Time.” The Arizona band twists the three-chord punk formula with sprawling guitars on the intro to “One More Minute,” which veers into demented reggae on the chorus. The churning chords on “Mesa Town” bring to mind old Ramones, and flamenco guitar breaks alternate with metallic crunch on “Over Seasons.” Other songs don’t have much to set them apart. Still, Authority Zero shows promise.
