With Curie playing two games at two different sites Sunday, coach Mike Oliver was hoping his Condors could escape an afternoon match against East Oktibbeha County of Crawford, Miss., without much trouble.

Wish granted. No. 18 Curie turned in an impressive showing at the Martin Luther King Shootout at Proviso West, scoring the first nine points of the game and cruising to an 89-41 victory.

The second part of the day–a trip to North Park University for an 8 p.m. game that was part of an eight-game shootout hosted by Von Steuben–was more difficult but still successful as Curie edged Kenwood 65-63.

Curie improved to 16-5. Kenwood is 14-5.

In the first game, Curie played 12 players in the first quarter and 16 by halftime. Thirteen Condors scored, and Curie’s starting five accounted for only 29 points. Reserves Greg Cherry (12 points), Ashford Oliver (11), Cory Dora (10) and Alex Nowak (10) led Curie.
