Marshall’s Charese Reed provided the answer to a not-so-trivial question Tuesday: 12 points, 10 rebounds, six steals, two assists and a block.
The question: What kind of statistics were the Commandos missing in their two losses this season?
Reed, who has returned from a severe ankle sprain, was not missing during No. 6 Marshall’s 54-37 Public League Superconference victory at No. 10 Young.
The 5-foot-10-inch junior, Marshall’s tallest starter, had eight of her points and four rebounds in the second quarter as the Commandos (14-2, 7-1) took a 28-18 lead. She made her presence felt in the fourth quarter on a reverse layup and a turnaround jumper that extended Marshall’s lead to 44-29.
“I’m so glad, really happy to be back,” said Reed, who had two 17-point games last week. “This game was important because we’ve lost two games already. These games are like playoff games for us.”
That may be because the end of the regular season is surprisingly close for the Commandos. The Public League playoffs, which basically will be for bragging rights in the city because the winner does not receive an automatic bid Downstate, begin Jan. 28.
Jacquay Holmes led Marshall with 18 points and added seven rebounds, and Lashonda Grant came up with 11 points and four steals.
Danielle Campbell, Young’s 6-4 sophomore, led the Dolphins (13-5, 7-2) with 12 points.
