Ashley Owens scored a game-high 15 points Tuesday, including seven in the fourth quarter, as Trinity won 54-39 at Resurrection in a GCAC Red basketball game.
“As soon as I got [the ball], I tried to put it up,” said Owens, a 6-foot-1-inch senior. “I tried to keep it up [in the air] and have a quick release. I was really concentrating on that, and it seemed to work.”
Resurrection (14-3, 1-2), led by 14 from Kristi Cirone, struggled with the Blazers’ height advantage. Owens, with six in the first quarter, led the Blazers (16-3, 5-0) to a 19-8 lead in the first, then a 28-20 edge at halftime.
Trinity built a 13-point lead in the third and led by as many as 17, 52-35, in the final moments of the game when Cristina Crispino hit her fourth and final three-pointer.
“They’re big, very big,” Bandits coach Kerry Durham said. “Our shots weren’t falling, especially earlier–and they obviously had a lot to do with that. And their shots were falling. If our shots had fallen early, it would have been a different story.”
Trinity’s Caprice Smith added 11.
“I’m very excited with the win,” Trinity coach Jason Nichols said. “We played together as a team tonight. Everyone contributed.”
