Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

It’s been more than a month since Boris Mironov sat out with his severe pouting rash and there’s even less of him to loathe. He’s lost not only dollars ($659,988 through Tuesday), but also pounds.

“Now that he’s back skating, he’s lost weight and is probably in better shape than when he left,” said Blackhawks GM Mike Smith.

Great. He quits, refusing to help the team. Then, while he’s out, he gets in better shape just in time to get traded.

Not paying this guy isn’t enough. Tarring and feathering is better. Trading him to Atlanta is best.

SOME THINGS DON’T CHANGE: Smith also said of Mironov’s improved physical condition, “This moves him a little closer to a rental player.” Doesn’t that pretty much sum up his season with the Hawks?

ON THIRD THOUGHT: Trade Mironov to Ottawa. He’s used to not getting paid.

REST EASY: Brett Favre will return next season to quarterback the Packers. “Right now I’m playing great,” said Favre. By “now” he meant some flag football in his backyard, not “now” as in the last two weeks of the season and the first round of the playoffs.

FAMILY ENTERTAINMENT: Favre also explained to the breathless crowd of reporters why he took off without talking to the press after Saturday’s 27-7 dismantling by the Falcons: He wanted to get home, tuck in his young girls and watch cartoons with his wife. Brett, those are called “Bears game films.”

FUTURE FAVRE: Rex Grossman’s call to leave Florida is a good one since the Gators decide to take a Leak–standout prep QB Chris Leak, that is. As for Grossman’s NFL chances, you’ve likely heard how some have compared him to Favre. Sure, we can see it. The junior QB had 9,164 yards passing and is the third-best passer in school history after Danny Wuerffel and Shane Matthews. Whoa, wait a minute.

GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN: It was magnanimous of the NFL to put out a statement explaining how a blown referee’s call prevented the New York Giants from another chance to beat San Francisco with a game-ending field goal.

Still waiting for that release from the Bears explaining their blown season.

CHIP IN: Send your contributions to buy Browns WR Dennis Northcutt and Giants TE Jeremy Shockey a matching set of grip wrenches from Sears.

HALL OF SHAME: Just wait and see. When results are announced Tuesday, Lee Smith won’t receive enough votes to get into the Hall of Fame and Mitch Williams will get at least one vote. Don’t believe it? Last year, a baseball writer voted to enshrine Lenny Dykstra in the Hall. Why?

REAL REALITY TV: Thanks to you, the American viewing public, the top five shows in last week’s Nielsen rankings were football, football, football, football and football (1. Giants-49ers; 2. Browns-Steelers; 3. Ohio State-Miami in the Fiesta Bowl; 4. Falcons-Packers; and 5. Jets-Colts). If they had broadcast a show where you could watch New Yorkers suffer through the Giants loss, it would have ranked sixth.

FATHERLY ADVICE: Having helped his son Peyton during his tenure at Tennessee, Archie Manning says he will help his son, Eli, make an informed decision about skipping his senior season at Ole Miss and dive into the NFL Draft. Eli, if it helps you decide, the Bears are looking for a DT or a RB over a QB.
