Queen honors Jones: Tony Jones, president of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, has become a Commander of the British Empire for his promotion of British Art in the United States. The award was announced Tuesday as part of Queen Elizabeth II’s New Year’s Honors list.
Jones is an authority on the work of architect Charles Rennie Mackintosh and a former director of the Glasgow School of Art. Most recently, Jones wrote a four-part series on Welsh art and artists for broadcast on BBC Wales in conjunction with an exhibition at the National Museum in Cardiff. In 2001 he also was appointed honorary director of Japan’s Osaka University of the Arts.
