Sheriff’s police arrested three men and seized 2 kilograms of cocaine with an estimated street value of $600,000 Tuesday after the suspects allegedly tried to sell the drugs to undercover detectives in Bensenville.
Authorities are searching for a fourth suspect who fled in a Chevrolet Astro Van after the three men were detained around 6:40 p.m. near Grand Avenue and York Road, according to the sheriff’s office. The van was found about one block away in a church parking lot and the suspect was seen leaving the area on foot, the sheriff’s office said. A canine unit search failed to locate the suspect.
The three men were taken into custody after allegedly completing negotiations for the sale of 2 kilograms of cocaine with undercover narcotics detectives from the sheriff’s office. The men were identified as Cruz Barraza, 22, of Lawrenceville, Ga.; Rene Guerrero, 22, and Aniceto Reyes Jr., 23, both of Chicago. Each was charged with unlawful possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, which is a Super Class X felony. The three men are each being held in lieu of a $500,000 bond in DuPage County Jail, the sheriff’s office said.
In addition to the drugs, authorities including the Elmhurst and Bensenville Police Departments and the sheriff’s office’s special response unit seized a loaded 9 mm semiautomatic pistol, the sheriff’s office said.
The investigation is continuing, a sheriff’s spokeswoman said.
