Illinois football coach Ron Turner learned Friday that sexual-assault charges against running back recruit Ibrahim Halsey of Elizabeth, N.J., have been dropped.

Halsey and five others were arrested May 26 and charged with assaulting a 14-year-old girl in a Wildwood Crest, N.J., motel room.

Under New Jersey law, Halsey was eligible to attend Illinois.

However, Turner recommended he remain in New Jersey and let the legal process run its course.

Turner said he hopes Halsey will able to enroll at Illinois either for the start of the second semester or next fall.
