In a tribute to Serge Daney, the influential French film critic who passed away in 1992, Block Cinema has scheduled five of his favorite films to be screened in November. One is the 1977 “News from Home,” in which director Chantal Akerman reads letters from her mother in Brussels in a voice-over to accompany images of everyday activities in New York City. Another is Jean-Luc Godard’s “Histoire(s) du Cinema,” which examines the relationship between film and history.
