Police were searching Monday for a hit-and-run driver who critically injured a boy Sunday in a St. Charles parking lot.
The boy, Matt Wilcox, 9, of St. Charles, was attending a pizza party with his parents and fellow members of a youth league football team in Rookie’s Sports Bar, 1545 W. Main St., said St. Charles Police Cmdr. Lynn Schroder.

Matt and some friends were tossing around a football in a nearby parking lot around 6:30 p.m. when a car struck him and drove off, Schroder said.
Witnesses said the dark-color, four-door car may have been a Honda Accord or a Mitsubishi Gallant, Schroder said.
Matt was airlifted Sunday to Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, where he remained in critical condition Monday, a hospital spokeswoman said.
Matt is a pupil at Munhall Elementary School in St. Charles. On Monday, teachers there told their classes about the accident, and Principal Tim Krahenbuhl sent letters home with pupils, said Tom Hernandez, a spokesman for St. Charles Community Unit School District 303.
He said Matt plays for the Tri-City Chargers in a private youth league.
