It looks like the 54th annual Primetime Emmy Awards weren’t just good to Michael Chiklis of FX’s “The Shield,” who was the surprise winner as best actor in a drama.
Roughly 20 million people watched NBC’s broadcast on Sunday, according to preliminary Nielsen estimates, a 15 percent increase from last year’s 17.2 million average. It was the second highest total in six years; the 2000 Emmycast was seen by 21.8 million viewers.
NBC’s research department said final figures won’t be available until Tuesday, which could push Sunday’s average even higher.
