The City Council will discuss Oehler Funeral Home’s proposal to move at its Sept. 3 meeting.
Earlier this month, aldermen requested more time to consider the request by Oehler, a downtown mainstay at 555 S. Lee St., since 1929. Funeral home officials want to move to a 2-acre site at the southwest corner of Rand Road and Dempster Street.

Community activist Irene Serwa and other residents argued against the business’s request for 111 parking spaces on a site once sought for use as a park by the Des Plaines Park District.
Zoning requirements allow 69 parking spaces on the site, officials said.
