Danada Equestrian Center in Wheaton offers horse-related activities year-round, such as riding lessons, trail rides, hayrides (sleigh rides in winter) and group tours.
Visitors (who will be at least 14 before the February orientation session) might consider applying to be a volunteer in 2003; applications are accepted through November.
Volunteers help muck out stalls, clean equipment and keep the barn organized.
Some help with programs, special events and daily barn duties, including maintenance such as fence mending and weed pulling.
Those with previous experience may assist with group horsemanship programs.
Those whose only experience is a desire to learn about horses also are welcome.
The center is part of the DuPage County Forest Preserve District and is on Naperville Road, half a mile north of Interstate Highway 88. Call 630-668-6012 or visit www.dupageforest.com/ education/danada.html.
