An increase in revenue for the DuPage County Forest Preserve District will be spent on new programs and facilities, such as the Tri-County State Park near Bartlett, said commission President Dewey Pierotti.

The Forest Preserve District’s budget, which was passed Tuesday, includes a 5 percent increase in revenue over last year, or $850,000.

All told, the district plans to spend more than $228 million in fiscal 2002-03. The money will be used to buy land and maintain and develop 59 forest preserves covering 24,000 acres.

Taxes from new businesses accounted for much of the revenue growth. The Forest Preserve District’s property-tax levy passed in November lowered the rate homeowners pay.

“The district is not going to see any significant organizational growth. The extra revenues will fund new district facilities and programs,” Pierotti said.
