A mobile food pantry for needy people will be parked from 10 a.m. to noon Friday in the parking lot of the Community Christian Church, 131 Montgomery Rd.

The service is being sponsored by the Northern Illinois Food Bank and the Aurora-based Hope for Tomorrow Inc.

“This is by no means going to supply the same as a week’s worth of groceries, but it can help supplement what they need to spend on food and maybe be able to put toward another need, like a pair of shoes,” said Jeff Gilbert, president of Hope for Tomorrow.

The mobile food pantry is owned by the food bank and is housed in an old beverage truck.

Sponsoring agencies pay $200 to have the stocked truck come to an area and supply volunteers to help staff it. The truck will be stocked Friday with enough juice, canned goods and cereal for about 200 households.
