Buying a beer at Hoffman Estates’ upcoming 4th of July Festival may require a little more patience, as village officials plan new measures to keep tabs on alcohol sales.
At a Finance Committee meeting Tuesday, members voted to require wristbands for anyone drinking or buying alcohol at the event.
That means people will need to stand in three separate lines before they can buy beer. “This is really going to be confusing,” said Dan Callender, chairman of the 4th of July Commission.
During past years, festival officials checked the identification of everyone who looked under 30 and would stamp hands if their age “looked questionable.” Committee members also recommended issuing different color wristbands for each day of the festival, which runs July 3 to 7. The Village Board is expected to discuss the wristband measure when it meets Monday.
