A new antiques show catering to the urban collector is coming to town Friday. Leslie Blackman (with a little backup from husband Tom Blackman, who is the mastermind of the recent contemporary art extravanza Art Chicago 2002), is presenting an alternative to the bigger shows with The Spring City Antiques Show.

The show will be held at the new location of Salvage One, 1840 W. Hubbard St.
Salvage One’s newly landscaped courtyard garden and the upscale grunge of this architectural salvage warehouse already have been used a few times for other high-profile benefit parties.
Tom Blackman plans to spruce up the 3rd floor for The Spring Antiques Show with lighting and tall white booth panels from Art Chicago, which was held earlier this month.
About 30 dealers are participating in the show. Most are well-known, such as Douglas Dawson, Richard Norton, Aron Packer. There also are relative newcomers, such as Stopert Perez Ltd. of Chicago, which will bring Spanish Colonial antiques from South America, including rustic furniture of the late 1900s.
Canal House Antiques of Lockport will bring antique early American furniture, while Richard Wright will be bringing Midcentury Modernist furniture. Pavilion, a Chicago dealer with a penchant for French urban style, will be bringing things in that vein. Mad Parade brings vintage one-of-a-kind garden ornaments.
Friday’s opening night preview, from 5 to 10 p.m., will feature live music and light fare, beverages, wine, desserts. Cost: $25. The show is $10 and open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 2. Call Thomas Blackman Associates Inc. at 312-587-3300.
