People usually venture to forest preserves in search of nature, but sometimes they unknowingly leave behind hazards such as plastic six-pack rings, which can entrap animals, or discarded fish hooks that can injure pets and people walking near the shoreline.

Cast No Trash is a campaign by the DuPage County Forest Preserve District to make users aware of the problems caused by remnants left by visitors.

The program suggests that preserve visitors remember the acronym CAST (and it works in parks outside DuPage County too):

C–Collect all trash.

A–Approach the nearest trash and recycling bins.

S–Separate recyclable from non-recyclable trash.

T–Throw recyclables and trash completely into the marked bins.
