Be on your toes when ‘Angelina’ hits town
Following in the footsteps of “Bob the Builder” and “Kipper,” the British animated series “Angelina Ballerina” takes center stage with its debut at 9:30 a.m. Sunday on WTTW-Ch. 11. Based on the popular books by former Chicagoan Katharine Holabird, this charming series features the voices of Finty Williams as aspiring ballet dancer Angelina, and Williams’ mother, Dame Judi Dench, as Angelina’s teacher Miss Lilly.
Holabird and a costumed, live-action Angelina have a full dance card with area appearances next weekend. Children can meet them at 10 a.m. Saturday at Zany Brainy in Northbrook and at 2 p.m. at the Harold Washington Library. They will make a Mother’s Day appearance at 9:30 a.m. May 12 at the American Girl Place in Chicago.
Peek behind the scenes at Disney resorts
It’s a small screen after all, but the Travel Channel’s “Walt Disney World Resorts: Behind the Scenes” is the next best thing to visiting Disney’s four Florida-based theme parks. Airing at 7 p.m., monday this 60-minute program skips the lines to reveal the inner-workings of such E-ticket attractions as the Haunted Mansion and the Tower of Terror.
Family classics spring from the vault
Closer to home, Walt Disney Home Video premieres its “Vault Disney Collection” of live-action family classics from the studio’s 1950s and ’60s heyday. Making their DVD debuts Tuesday are “Old Yeller,” “The Parent Trap,” “Pollyanna” and “Swiss Family Robinson.” Each two-disc set retails for $29.99 and contains a treasure trove of archival gems as well as newly recorded audio commentary by reunited cast and crew members.
Also making its DVD premiere this week is “The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh,” the 1977 feature-length compilation that contained the original trio of animated Pooh featurettes, “Winnie the Pooh and the Honey Tree,” “Winnie the Pooh and Tigger, Too” and the Oscar-winning “Winnie the Pooh and the Blustery Day.”
