The sister of a man suspected of stabbing a friend to death in Downers Grove last year pleaded guilty Tuesday in DuPage County court to hindering authorities’ efforts to find him.
Jeisy Joseph, 37, of Clarendon Hills was charged with obstruction of justice for withholding information from Downers Grove police about the whereabouts of her brother, Joyel Joseph, 34, of India.
Joyel Joseph is charged with murder in the slaying of Xavier Malayil, 57, in Malayil’s Downers Grove apartment on Feb. 7, 2001. The two men were friends and former co-workers.

Officials said Jeisy Joseph lied to police after Malayil’s death. Her brother is not thought to be in the Chicago area, and authorities say he may have fled the country.
DuPage Judge George Bakalis set a June 12 sentencing date. Jeisy Joseph, who has been free on bail since her arrest in February 2001, could be sentenced to as many as 3 years in prison.
