The work of Chicago artist Michael Thompson inspires flights of the imagination. His kites–made of bamboo and paper that he collected on his travels in Asia–have a serenity about them despite their size (3 by 4 feet to 2 by 6 feet). Proceeds from the sale of one of his kites, “Night Falling (Blue to Black),” $3,880, will be donated to the Living Room Cafe, a not-for-profit group in Woodlawn that helps the homeless. The kites, $1,890 to $4,280, are sold at Pagoda Red, 1714 N. Damen Ave., 773-235-1188, and 902 Green Bay Rd., Winnetka, 847-784-8881.
