Police are searching for a man suspected of robbing a Red Roof Inn in Naperville early Sunday.
The suspect, described as 5-feet-8-inches tall, weighing about 200 pounds, was last seen wearing a black sweat suit and a gray wool cap.
Witnesses told police the suspect entered the hotel at 1698 W. Diehl Rd. around 12:50 a.m. Sunday, showed an employee the butt of a handgun and demanded cash. He took an undisclosed amount of money from the cash drawer and ran south.
Also over the weekend, Downers Grove police arrested a Hinsdale man accused of mugging a woman with a pellet gun. Brian T. Timms, 31, of Kingery Quarter, is being held on a charge of aggravated robbery in the DuPage County Jail in lieu of posting a $75,000 bond.
Police said a robber drove into the parking lot of a Jewel grocery at 6215 Main St. in Downers Grove sometime around 12:45 a.m. Saturday, police said. He is alleged to have driven up to a couple, pointed a handgun at them and demanded the woman’s purse. He allegedly took the purse and sped eastbound on 63rd Street, police said.
After identifying the suspect, police said they arrested him without incident at his home and discovered that the weapon allegedly used in the robbery was a pellet gun.
