Lisle finally got a second participant in the facade grant program it introduced three years ago to help revitalize its aging downtown storefronts.
Trustees approved the $10,000 grant requested by George Pistona for his five-store Main Street Plaza, located at the southwest corner of Lisle Place and Main Street, along the downtown’s southern gateway. They also awarded him $1,000 to pay architectural fees.
Pistona said he plans to spend $80,000 on the storefront reconstruction to replace signs for the site’s five occupants, a laundromat, dry cleaners, shoe repair, barbershop and restaurant.
New roof coverings, shingles and column enclosures will be installed. The metal roofing material will be sage green, the outer walls sand-colored and the column enclosures of imitation brick.
The facade grant program was initiated in 1999 as part of the village’s downtown revitalization intended to redevelop and beautify much of the area from Illinois Highway 53 east to the historic district and from Ogden Avenue to south of the Burlington Northern railroad. The village allots $55,000 each year for the program.
