While they look like the real thing, the Fire Bowl’s dancing flames are illusions created by high tech halogen lamps and a fan positioned inside the curved bowl base. The fan blows thin strips of white fabric in a dancing motion over the base of the bowl. When the red/orange and blue light from the lamps inside the bowl hits these fabric strips, it creates what looks like real fire. (American DJ is a leading maker of special effects lighting for mobile disc jockeys, theaters and clubs.)
Portable and lightweight, the 8-pound Fire Bowl can be moved from room to room, and hung from a ceiling or beam. Several can be placed on an outdoor deck for a look that would make Hercules feel right at home.
Suggested retail price for the Fire Bowl is $109.95. It is available only at authorized American DJ dealers, such as Audiolines.com, 847 W. Belmont Ave., 773-281-6007; Pro-Mix Audio & Lighting, 960 E. Northwest Hwy., Mt. Prospect, 847-797-9404; Chicago Spotlight, Inc., 1658 W. Carroll Ave., 312-455-1171.
