Your article “St. Paul began history of denying women clout” (Perspective, Feb. 3) omitted some important information about Lutherans. Not mentioned was the Chicago-based, 5.13-million member Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), which has nearly 2,600 women among its 12,000 active pastors. Five women are ELCA bishops. In our seminaries, at least half or more of the students are women.

Your article correctly states that the 2.5-million member Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod based in St. Louis does not ordain women. It was very disappointing that your article left out the ELCA, the largest Lutheran church body in the United States, and its accomplishments over more than 30 years in promoting the role of ordained women.
