Detroit coach Scotty Bowman isn’t surprised that the Blackhawks have shown a dramatic improvement in Brian Sutter’s first season as their coach.
“Brian was a good coach in Calgary (in 1997-2000),” Bowman said. “He did a good job in Boston (1992-95) too. He wasn’t appreciated in either place.
“But he has a proven record and he was a great player on a mediocre team (in St. Louis for 12 seasons).”
Bowman and Sutter will be allies for an afternoon when the NHL presents its All-Star Game on Feb. 2 in Los Angeles.
Bowman will be the World Team’s head coach and Sutter will be his assistant. Toronto’s Pat Quinn and Boston’s Robbie Ftorek will coach the North America stars.
