I go through all this/Before you wake up/So I can feel happier/To be safe up here with you sings Bjork in her tune “Hyperballad,” a sentiment echoed not only by her fans, but by the folks who have made tickets to her Oct. 14 Civic Opera House show one of the hottest in town.

Bjork tickets went on sale Aug. 18 for $50-$125. The show sold out immediately and now everybody from fans to ticket brokers are looking for a ticket. Here’s what we found when we went looking ourselves.

“That one is more on the tough side,” said ticket broker Max Waisvisz of Gold Coast Tickets. “It’s curious because the face value was high, $125. We didn’t know if that kind of crowd would spend that kind of money on the tickets. Now, that one’s turned out to be a hard to get show.”

And how. A random sampling of local ticket brokers didn’t turn up a single Bjork ticket, though one broker said some would be available “soon.”

On reliable eBay, prices ranged from $185 for one ticket, to $535 for a pair. The highest selling price on eBay this week $1,000 for a pair of seats six rows from the stage.

“I’m going insane, I need to get to that concert,” says Greg Burosh of South Bend, Ind., who sold collectible Simpsons figurines to get together money for the inflated after-sale ticket prices. “Even nose bleed seats are going for at least $200 each. My aunt said she’ll check with the concierge at her apartment building. This other guy I know has a friend who works at the Opera House.”

There are tickets going for face value, but those who want them have to be fast. Maria Vargas lives in San Juan, Puerto Rico and recently sold her pair, acquired during an Aug. 17 pre-sale through the official Bjork website. The tickets went for face value. Vargas sold her seats because she’s afraid to fly from Puerto Rico to Chicago. She screened the 15 emails that she received.

“I was afraid that someone who wanted to profit from them would contact me,” says Vargas. “So I chose a person I know that wants to go to the concert that I met as a Bjork fan months ago.”
