For Naperville Central’s girls volleyball team, it seems the faster the pace the better they play.
The No. 3 Redhawks (15-0-1, 5-0) stymied a Game 2 Naperville North comeback, then scored five unanswered points to lock down the win and a 15-10, 15-9 DuPage Valley sweep Thursday.
“We are so much better when we keep the pace and momentum in our control,” said Central coach Amy Van Eekeren. “In the first game we didn’t play badly but we weren’t quite in step [but] then they definitely stepped it up.”
Redhawk junior Meg Eckert led both teams with 16 kills and three aces, and setter Cayley Thulrby added 30 assists and seven digs. Katie Bruzdzinski paced Naperville North (9-2, 4-1) with nine kills while Andrea Kolwitz added eight.

Mundelein d. Round Lake 15-11, 15-8: Jennifer Hynds recorded five kills, four aces and nine digs to go with Ashley Fidler’s five kills as the No. 10 Mustangs (15-2, 2-0) rolled in the North Suburban Lake.

Barrington d. Palatine 15-1, 15-7: Ingrid Roth’s five blocks and four kills led the Fillies (12-5, 5-0) in the Mid-Suburban West.

Queen of Peace d. Resurrection 15-3, 15-8: Theresa Nugent led the Pride (7-2, 2-0) with seven kills and four blocks in the GCAC Red.

Corliss 40, South Shore 12: Darnell Williams had 105 yards rushing and three touchdown and Antoine Merritt had two touchdown receptions to lead Corliss (4-1, 2-0) to the Public South win.
Flower 22, Austin 12: John Davis rushed for 113 yards and two touchdowns in 18 carries as the Olympians (3-2, 2-0) won in the Public West. Thomas Nelson had two TD passes for Austin (3-2, 1-1).
Harlan 52, Washington 6: Aaron Rawls ran for 191 yards in eight carries and scored four touchdowns as the Falcons (1-3, 1-1) rolled in the Public South.
Lake View 42, Farragut 0: Adam Winston scored three touchdowns–two rushing and one on an interception return–as Lake View (4-1, 2-0) romped in the Public West.
Marshall 39, Westinghouse 6: Michael Armstrong was 7-for-9 passing for 176 yards and threw two TDs to James Jones as the Commandos (5-0, 2-0) rolled in the Public Illini Northwest.
Mather 21, Young 0: Bobby Schubert, normally a wide receiver, stepped in at quarterback and completed 6-of-10 passes for 122 yards and two touchdowns as the Rangers (4-1, 1-1) picked up the Public Illini Northeast victory. Schubert replaced Jerry Martinez, who sprained his ankle in the first quarter.
Schubert tossed a 26-yard touchdown pass to Charlie Robinson 19 seconds before half to put Mather up 6-0. Schubert then connected with George Ruiz for a 68-yard score early in the third quarter to go up 14 points. Schubert capped the scoring himself with a 25-yard TD on an interception return late in the third quarter. Young (4-1, 1-1) was held to 145 yards and five first downs.
Morgan Park 20, Simeon 14: Jerohn Fields hit Brandon Bradbury with a 60-yard touchdown pass with 34 seconds left as the Mustangs (4-1, 2-0) pulled out the Public Illini Southeast victory. Reginald Gray had two interceptions, including one in the fourth quarter.
Andre Morrison rushed for 60 yards and two touchdowns in 17 carries to lead Simeon (2-3, 1-1).

Lincoln-Way Central 7, Andrew 1: The top-ranked Knights (11-0-2, 4-0) notched the SICA West rout as Matt Wiellaw and Zach Pawlowski each scored twice.
Geneva 3, Oswego 2 (2OT): Matt Soper put in the game-winner on a penalty kick in the second overtime to give the No. 2 Vikings (10-0-1, 7-0) the edge in the Suburban Prairie Red.
Glenbard West 1, Waubonsie Valley 1: Derrick Clanton scored early in the second half as the No. 3 Waubonsie Valley (8-2-3) rallied for the tie. Ben Hinchey scored in the 14th minute for Glenbard West (3-2-2).
