A 19-year old Villa Park man has been sentenced to 5 years in prison for driving a car that struck a child and for stealing another car, separate instances that occurred while the defendant was high on heroin, authorities said.

Nicholas Mogavero, of the first block of East Congress Street, was sentenced recently by DuPage County Judge Robert Anderson for aggravated driving under the influence of drugs and for possession of a stolen car.

Assistant State’s Atty. Scott Kent said that Mogavero struck a 6-year-old boy in September 2000 while he was under the influence of heroin. Two months later he stole a car after taking heroin.
