The Village Board is poised to trade 8 acres of unincorporated industrial land in its planning boundaries for 20 acres of residential land in Lombard’s planning boundaries Tuesday. The Finance and Policy Committee approved the swap last month. The 8-acre parcel, known as the Grant property, sits on the east side of Lombard Road just south of the Chicago Central and Pacific Railroad tracks. Officials from Addison and Lombard agreed in 1990 that the area should be annexed to Addison, said Assistant Village Manager John Berley. After analyzing the industrial park as part of the revitalization plan study, Addison officials concluded that the police and fire departments could have trouble reaching the Grant property during an emergency, so they proposed the trade to Lombard.

In return for the 8 acres of industrial land, Addison will get a 20-acre area of existing homes at the northeast corner of Grace Street and North Avenue, just behind the row of businesses that lines North Avenue. Addison officials do not plan to annex the land in the near future, said Village President Lorenz Hartwig. The boundary agreement will expire in 2021 if neither village annexes the property allotted to it by then.
